Namco Bandai has suspended the online PvP mode of the role-playing game Dark Souls and taken the servers offline to investigate issues related to a serious security issue that could compromise players.

The PvP servers for Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls are temporarily down. This is to investigate a recently reported issue with our online services. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

According to a Reddit community report, this vulnerability is a remote code execution (RCE) that could allow an attacker to take control of your system, gain access to sensitive information, plant malware, or use your resources for cryptocurrency mining.

Dark Souls 3 attackers are now able to execute code on your PC without your permission. It is also known as RCE, Remote Code Execution. This same hack is possible with the Elden Ring.

This vulnerability attack is actively circulating and may be effective against Namco Bandai’s upcoming title, Elden Ring.

This issue became widely publicized with a post on Discord revealing that the game developer received details of the RCE vulnerability in a responsible disclosure report directly from the finder.

Namco Bandai allegedly ignored the report, but given the severity of the vulnerability, the reporter decided to ask popular real-life players to help by demonstrating it, to raise awareness and show the importance of the issue.

In fact, at least one live broadcast on Twitch has featured this exploit, crashing and terminating after running Microsoft PowerShell and text-to-speech scripts.

After reports of active abuse became widespread, Dark Souls announced on Twitter that the team would be taking the PvP servers for all titles in the series offline to investigate the allegations.

This only affects the PC platform, and the PvP experience on Xbox and PS consoles will remain unaffected

Blue Sentinel, a widely used anti-cheat tool for the Dark Souls game, is reportedly working on a patch to prevent the vulnerability from being exploited. However, protection by this tool is not guaranteed.
