Acer says it has suffered a second security breach

news

Acer has announced that it has suffered its second security breach, with over 60G of data being sold underground.

This data, which allegedly contains customer and login information for Indian retailers and distributors, was shared on a forum called RAID. This forum has been used by threat actors over the past few years to extort companies and sell the stolen data.

Samples of the stolen data were shared by the attackers, along with videos of the rest of the files.

The full text of the statement is as follows

An attack on India’s after-sales service system has been confirmed. Upon detection, we immediately initiated a security response and conducted a full scan of the system.

We have already informed our customers in India who may have been affected.

This incident has been reported to local law enforcement and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team and will not have a material impact on our operations and business continuity.

This is also the second security breach in Acer India’s network after hackers stole the credentials of 20,000 users in 2012.
